Marquis Companies, a skilled nursing, assisted living and home health care company, and it’s sister company, Consonus Health Services, a pharmacy, rehabilitation, staffing and consulting company, are proud to recognize 43 outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond expectations to help serve and better their communities. Passionate about making a difference in other people’s lives, this year’s Marquis and Consonus Legends are a group of staff members and residents from across Oregon, Washington, Montana, California, Idaho and Nevada.
"The Legends program is designed to formally recognize Marquis and Consonus staff members who demonstrate a consistent commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the residents, their families and employees," said Phil Fogg, Jr., president and CEO of Marquis Companies. "Their work inspires everyone around them, and through their actions and words, Legends bring the Marquis and Consonus philosophy to life, renewing our commitment to those we serve."
Sheila Colins – Physical Therapy Assistant, Consonus Rehab/Marquis Care at Springfield (Springfield, Ore.) – Sheila works with residents, encouraging, motivating and inspiring them, against all odds, to improve their well-being and quality of life. One resident suffered from a severe stroke and was told he would never walk again. He was assigned to rehabilitation with Sheila. She was convinced that she could make his life better and because of their continued determination and hard work, he regained much of his mobility and was able to return home with his wife.
Abe Andrade – Staffing Coordinator, Marquis Care at Silver Gardens (Silverton, Ore.) – Abe is an individual who loves life, his job and the people he serves. On one particular occasion, Abe dressed in a tuxedo to escort one of his residents who was awarded the facility Rose Queen Award. Abe continually volunteers to help with activities and to create special events for Marquis residents.
Beth Harmon & Sandra Stevens – Certified Nursing Assistants, Marquis care at Plum Ridge (Klamath Falls, Ore.) – When Marquis Care at Mt. Tabor was in need of nursing assistance and there was no help to be found, Beth and Sandra volunteered to lend a hand. Leaving their families and working environment behind, both women moved from Klamath Falls to Portland and spent a month at the Mt. Tabor facility helping its residents.
Jim Marce, Judy Culley, Eleanor Wilson, James Vanderwal – Staff, Marquis Care at Mt. Tabor (Portland, Ore.) – Last December, during Oregon’s Arctic Blast, a number of Marquis staff members were unable to get to and from work. These four individuals helped drive staffers to and from the facilities, snow plow and shovel around the streets, parking lots and doors, and worked around the clock caring for residents and taking over shifts for those unable to make it.
Sheena Ba – Certified Nursing Assistant, Marquis Care at Wilsonville (Wilsonville, Ore.) – Sheena works to touch the lives of others by going above and beyond to ensure that her residents feel loved, appreciated and valued. She decided to surprise one resident with a birthday party, and decorated her room with balloons, streamers, gifts and a cake to help make her birthday one she would always remember.
Karen Park & Tom Jaques – Residents, Marquis Care at Hope Village (Canby, Ore.) – Karen and Tom created a garden oasis at the Canby facility for residents, their families and staffers to enjoy. Both Karen and Tom have always held a passion for gardening and decided that they wanted to share this passion with others. They reached out to the community for supplies, pots, flowers and support and after months of hard work they transformed the un-kept, overgrown yard into a blooming, colorful backyard full of potted plants, flowers, and vegetables.
Kelli Carr – Nurse Consultant, Consonus Pharmacy at Redmond (Redmond, Wash.) – Kelli is known for being "Santa’s Helper." A few Christmases ago Kelli and her family decided that, rather than buying gifts for one another, they would adopt a resident (or two) and bring Christmas to them. Kelli and her family have since grown the program, involving friends, extended family and more to share the Christmas spirit with long-term care residents.
